Taiwan Passport Photo Requirements 2026: BOCA 35x45 mm Size, 32-36 mm Head Height, and White Background

Taiwan passport photo requirements from BOCA: 35x45 mm printed photos, 32-36 mm chin-to-crown head height, white background, six-month recency, and digital upload limits.

Quick answer for Taiwan passport photos

Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs says ROC e-passport applicants must submit two identical colour photographs taken within the last six months. The printed photo size is 35 mm wide x 45 mm high, with a plain white background and a centred head.

RequirementTaiwan BOCA rule
Printed size35 x 45 mm
Head height32-36 mm from chin to crown
RecencyTaken within the last 6 months
BackgroundPlain white background
CopiesTwo identical colour photos
Digital uploadJPG/JPEG, RGB colour mode, 5 MB max, at least 413 x 531 px

How the face should sit in the frame

BOCA gives a tight head-height range: the distance from the bottom of the chin to the crown should be 32-36 mm. That puts the face at roughly 70-80 percent of the photo height. The head should be evenly centred, with the top of the shoulders visible.

  • Face forward and look directly at the camera.
  • Keep both eyes open and clearly visible.
  • Use a neutral expression with the mouth closed unless a disability makes that impossible.
  • Keep both edges of the face visible.
  • Do not tilt the head forward, backward, or sideways.

Background, glasses, and appearance checks

The background must be plain white, evenly lit, and free from shadows or reflections. BOCA also says eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth, face edges, ears, and natural marks such as moles or scars should be visible so the person can be identified. Tinted glasses and coloured contact lenses are not accepted.

Do not mirror, composite, beautify, or reshape the image. BOCA warns that altered or mirrored photos can cause problems when the passport is checked at e-gates and immigration counters.

Digital upload rules for BOCA online systems

For BOCA domestic online passport systems, the uploaded image must be JPG or JPEG, use RGB colour mode with at least 24-bit colour, be no larger than 5 MB, and have an image resolution of at least 413 pixels wide x 531 pixels high.

That pixel minimum matches the 35x45 mm frame at roughly 300 DPI. If you export a larger file, keep the same 35:45 shape and do not crop the head tighter than the BOCA chin-to-crown range.

  1. Choose a 35x45 mm passport-photo workflow.
  2. Use a recent front-facing portrait taken within the last six months.
  3. Set the head height to the 32-36 mm range and keep the shoulders visible.
  4. Use a clean white background with no shadow.
  5. Export a print-ready file or a JPG/JPEG upload that stays within BOCA's digital limits.
