Greece Passport Photo Requirements 2026: myPhoto Digital Submission, 40x60 mm Prints, and Grey Background Rules
Greece passport photo requirements from passport.gov.gr: current myPhoto digital submission, 40x60 mm printed-photo rules for eligible consular cases, light grey background, and face-position checks.
Quick answer for Greek passport photos
Greek passport applications now centre on digital photo submission. The official passport.gov.gr page says that for applications inside Greece, the photograph must be submitted through the myPhoto service on gov.gr. Printed facial photographs were accepted during the transition only until January 31, 2026.
For applications abroad, the same official page says the photograph may be uploaded through the consular digital service, provided in physical form, or captured on site where the consular authority has suitable equipment. If a physical print is accepted, the printed photo specification is 40 mm x 60 mm without a frame.

Pose, expression, and background
The Greek guidance asks for a frontal photo. The expression should be neutral, with both eyes open and the mouth closed.
The background should be plain and light, preferably grey. It should not have patterns, lines, curves, shadows, or visible objects. The boundary between the head and the background must remain clear, including around hair.
Glasses, head coverings, and face visibility
- Eyes must be open and clearly visible.
- Sunglasses and tinted lenses are prohibited.
- Glasses frames must not cover the eyes or facial characteristics.
- Hair must not cover the eyes, eyebrows, or any part of the face.
- Head coverings are not allowed except for religious reasons, and the face must remain visible from chin to forehead and ear to ear.
How to use Passlens for a Greek passport photo
If your Greek route uses myPhoto, follow the official digital submission path. Passlens can still help you check framing, background, rotation, and print math before you go to the official submission channel. If your consular route accepts a physical print, use the 40x60 mm frame and keep the grey-background rule intact.
- Confirm whether your application is domestic myPhoto, consular upload, consular capture, or physical print.
- Use a current front-facing portrait taken within the last six months.
- Keep the background light grey and free of shadows.
- If printing is allowed for your route, export a 40x60 mm file and print at 100% scale.
- Do not rely on a generic 35x45 mm European preset for Greece unless the authority in front of you specifically asks for it.
